With the changing of the seasons, comes one of the most anticipated events in every high school girls lives. Prom. The night where you get to dress up like a princess and dance the night away. Looking back at my own prom photos, I cringe at the ensemble I chose. So learning from my mistakes, I am here to guide you on your road to the perfect prom look. I have rounded up some ideal prom items found on Ecohabitude so that you too can look back on your own prom nights without cringing.
Say Yes to the Dress
It is truly overwhelming the amount of different colors and styles to choose from when dress shopping. Cocktail to ball gown, it’s almost impossible to decide. So, sorting through the many options on Ecohabitude, I have picked some dresses that will have your peers asking you where did you find that?? Keep in mind that these dresses could be worn again for formals, weddings, and other classy events that you may attend. Practical and socially consciencious, these dresses are keepers.
But along with finding the ‘perfect’ prom dress, comes the not so perfect prom dress price. The dollar sign to some dresses in other stores could set you back on any other accessory or hair/makeup expenses you would like to drop some moola on. Not only does the price suck, but let’s be honest, you may only end up wearing the dress once. For those on a tight budget this prom season, fear not, here are some ideas on how to find the dress (and it won’t cost you an arm, a leg, or your updo).
- Thrift Stores: Around this time many second hand stores look specifically for prom dresses to resell.
- Specific online sites have programs where people donate their gently used gowns for high school girls. (ex: http://princessproject.org)
- Rent the Runway: Renting from Rent the Runway allows your to wear that high end designer dress for the night and not having to pay full price. Score!
Who says you have to wear a dress for prom? If there is a prom rule guide book stating that… get rid of it. It’s 2016! Time to shake things up in the fashion world and on the dance floor. Instead slip into something with pant legs; like a tailored tux or chic jumpsuit. You’ll definitely be making a edgy, yet, classy fashion statement this school year.
These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things
So you’ve got the dress. Congrats, you are only a quarter of the way done. DETAILS PEOPLE! Details, details, details. Meaning: Shoes, clutch, jewelry, etc. A style tip is to wear one statement piece at a time. You don’t want to walk into prom looking like Times Square, too much going on so no one can really focus on what to look at. Whether it’s some killer diamond earrings or a to-die-for clutch, wear that over the top statement piece and keep everything else somewhat subdue.
