In celebration of Mother’s Day, we’d like to draw attention to some super awesome mamas taking the time not only to be a mama, but to also share their experiences in green parenting with the masses. Kudos to these amazing ladies (and to those we didn’t get to mention)!
The Green Mama
Started by “green guru” Manda Aufochs Gillespie, The Green Mama (now also a book) was the first parenting guide to include info for both the US and Canada with real world advice for low income families wanting to go green. We love her “Ask The Green Mama” section where she features the answers to all your green parenting queries.
Easy Green Mom
In response to her husband’s gluten intolerance and other allergies, Amber of Easy Green Mom, was inspired to lead a more natural lifestyle – and share her experiences in the process. She started Easy Green Mom to share tips, helpful resources and DIYs. We especially love her gluten free recipes and eco-friendly, DIY cleaning concoctions.
We dig Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff’s take on being a green mommy: she leads by example, but is never a “sustaina-bully”. Her blog is like a super resource for green parents as she writes about things like getting rid of lice without toxic chemicals to detoxing your closet; she interviews green celebs and she keeps it real with environmental issues you should know about that may effect you and your family. She’s also a certified prenatal yoga teacher!
Groovy Green Livin
A “recovering attorney” and mom of three, Lori Popkewitz Alper’s goal is to make the world a little safer for each of us. We like her “Mom Detective” column where she searches for things not so commonly found like a flame retardant couch, a chemical free carpet, she even exposes the truth behind non-stick pans. Don’t have kids? She has great tips for your fur babies aka pets!
The Eco Chic
Calley of The Eco Chic is a self proclaimed eco-junky. Her professional career has given her experience in everything from Waste Prevention and Recycling, to Green Purchasing, Energy Management, and Alternative Fuels to name a few. Marketing consultant by day and eco blogger by night, Calley offers tips about green living, touching also on travel and women’s health. She’s also a huge advocate for the cloth diaper movement.
Peace Love Organic Mom
Peace Love Organic is ideal for new moms. The blog’s editor, Sarah, does honest reporting and gives reviews from her own product sampling. She also offers a ton of resources and websites to reference for raising your baby naturally. In addition to green parenting, she writes about vegan lifestyle and has a plethora of yummy vegan recipes on her site.3
